The Burton Bounce: Labour double support in latest polls

The party is set to enjoy a 7% bounce according to polls published tomorrow.

Updated 7am

THE ELECTION OF Joan Burton as the new leader of Labour has given the party an immediate bounce in opinion polls.

The latest Behaviour and Attitude polls in the Sunday Times show Labour up by 7% to 14% support, the first time they have reached double figures in many months.

Labour’s bounce back comes at the expense of everyone around them. Support for Fine Gael is down 2% to 24%, Sinn Féin drop by the same amount to 19% and Fianna Fáil drop a point to 18%.

Independents and others drop to 22% from 24% and the Greens remain unchanged at 2% support.

Not only is the party more popular, Burton herself is now the second most popular leader in the country.

She has a 45% approval rating, compared to Eamon Gilmore’s 37% last time out.

She trails Gerry Adams, who falls a point 47%. Micheal Martin is down 6% to 39% and Enda Kenny drops 5% to 35%.

Satisfaction with the government is down one point to 27%.
