This Charming Man

What does Leo make of being described as 'tall and good-looking with a certain exotic feel'?

The Health Minister came in for high praise from the former Fine Gael strategist earlier this week.

EARLIER THIS WEEK the former Fine Gael strategist Frank Flannery backed Leo Varadkar to succeed Enda Kenny as leader of Fine Gael.

In an interview with the Irish Examiner, Flannery outlined some of the reasons why Varadkar had the edge on other potential leadership contenders like Simon Coveney.

He told the paper that Varadkar is a “tall, good-looking man” and went to say that “there’s a certain exotic feel to Leo because he’s half Indian, he’s half Irish”.

Flannery noted that former taoiseach and president Eamon de Valera was half Spanish and half Irish with “a bit of American in him” and that the Irish people liked that in the de Valera and now like it in Varadkar.

So when we went to speak to the Health Minister at an event in Dublin Castle earlier today we couldn’t resist putting this description to him for his reaction.

Here’s what happened:
