Viable bombs found buried in ground near Limerick village

AN ARMY BOMB squad uncovered two explosive devices in Co Limerick this morning, after being called to the scene by gardaí.

An Army Engineer Specialist Search Team was also involved in this morning’s search in the Roxboro area of Co Limerick.

According to the Defence Forces:

“The two teams arrived on scene at 11.15am.

The engineers commenced clearance of a small patch of land approximately two kilometres from the village of Meanus where gardaí believed Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were buried.”

The bombs were found and confirmed as viable by the army experts.

They were rendered safe at the scene at around 1.20pm and removed to a military location for further analysis.

“A cordon was in place throughout the search,” the Defence Forces spokesperson confirmed.

The Defence Forces will continue to assist An Garda Síochána with their investigation.”
