Product Recall

Little Tikes issues recall of 1.7 million toy tool sets

The toy manufacturer has expanded a previous recall of any workshop and tool sets containing a nail which poses a choking hazard.

TOY MANUFACTURER Little Tykes has issued a product recall for around 1.7 million toy workshop and tool sets over fears that a nail used in them could pose a choking hazard.

The toy sets all include oversized, plastic toy nails measuring around 3.25 inches in length and about 1.25 inches at the head.

The latest recall is an expansion of a previous one, in 2009, when about 1.6 million similar workshop sets and trucks – all of them containing the same toy nails – were called.

The latest recall includes an additional 11 models of workshop and tool sets with the same toy nails.

Little Tikes told AP it was aware of two incidents in which children had choked when the toy nail became lodged in their throat.

Both incidents had occurred before the original 2009 recall, and in both cases the children made full recoveries.

The workshop and tool sets were sold by retailers between 1990 and 2004. It could not be ascertained whether the toys had been for sale in Ireland.

Information on the products being recalled can be found at Little Tikes’ website.
