Election 2014

So, what ARE you going to ask local election candidates? Here’s what you said…

Rather them than me.

ON SUNDAY WE gave you an idea of the type of questions you should put to Local Election candidates on the doorstep in the run up to the elections on 23 May.

We also asked you what you what you wanted to know from your local representatives. There were a lot of responses, here’s a selection of some of the best suggestions.

I’ve 3 questions for them all:
1 – Are you in politics as a career?
2 – Why do you want to be a public representative?
3 – Why are you seeking election to a system that is corrupt and does not represent the best interests of the people as a whole?
What am I going to ask local election candidates? Interesting question, seeing as not one of them as actually called to the door, they just push their rubbish through the letterbox and run like the cowards they are.
Tell me what you have voted Tá for and Níl for since you’ve been a councillor.
Why do we still need local candidates when we have the internet? We no longer need representatives we can speak for ourselves online instantly.
A good question that stumps FG and Labour is “Why did Denis O’Brien get paid to install water meters when Siemens offered to do it for nothing?”
Remind all the Labour candidates what Pat Rabbitte said about election promises.
  • Heather Sinnott wants to put candidates on the spot about how parties work in practice:
What are your party’s core values and please give me examples of how they have informed the political decisions they have met along the way? I think the word values will cause wide confusion.

Thanks for you input we will be doing a questionnaire for European Election candidates later in the week.
