Man to appear before court charged in relation to Longford stabbing death

The man is due before Mullingar District Court at 10.30am.

A 24-YEAR-OLD man who was arrested in relation to a fatal stabbing in Longford is to appear before court this morning.

Gardaí said a man was found with stab wounds in the Great Water Street area at around 11.50am on Tuesday.

The man who died is understood to have been aged in his early 30s.

He was discovered with chest wounds and was subsequently removed to Mullingar Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The scene was sealed off pending a garda forensic examination.

Gardaí have appealed for anyone who may have been in the area at the time, or in the region of the nearby shopping centre, to contact them at Longford Garda Station on 043 3350570, on the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666111, or at any Garda Station.
