Meath great-grandparents €100k richer after two Lotto wins in three days

The couple say they “won’t be going mad”.

TWO CO MEATH great-grandparents won over €100,000 from the National Lottery after they had two separate wins in three days.

The lucky couple won €10,000 on a Telly Bingo ticket bought last Thursday before winning €92,652  on Saturday’s main Lotto draw.

The incredible double-win comes after the retired husband matched five numbers plus the bonus number on a ticket bought in Eurospar in Duleek.

Two days earlier, the man’s wife purchased a Telly Bingo ticket in the same shop that yielded the first five-figure win.

Speaking at the National Lottery’s headquarters today, the couple said the Telly Bingo ticket was purchased on the anniversary of the death of their son.

Saturday’s Lotto win was on the day of the anniversary of his funeral, the great-grandmother added:

We really believe he was up there looking after us. It is such a coincidence that our wins came at this time. On the day of Telly Bingo I had gone to my son’s grave to clean it up and say a prayer.

Due to the bank holiday weekend, the couple had to wait an extra day before they could collect their winnings. The husband said he was worried about keeping the winning ticket safe until now.

“The safest place I could think of was the attic. That’s where the ticket has been for the last few days. I didn’t sleep a wink last night with excitement and worry,” he said.

Asked what they will do with the money, the couple said they “won’t be going mad”.

“We have a few Holy Communions in the family this month so this will certainly help towards that. And we will do a few jobs on the house also.”
