fizzy orange

How many people watched Love/Hate last night?*

*Hint: A LOT.

IT MAY HAVE raised the ire of animal rights groups, but last night’s episode of Love/Hate – the first in its fourth season – will be remembered for more than the tragic gunning down of a harmless cat.

imageHe didn’t survive to tune in for episode two. RIP, cat.

The show started its new season with a bang, with almost a million people (971,000) watching the first episode, making it the most-watched episode of Love/Hate ever.

In total, 1.3 million people tuned in at some point during the transmission, said RTÉ, compared to 630,700 viewers tuning in last year.

Its audience share has jumped from 35 per cent during the Season 3 opening episode to 53 per cent last night.

RTÉ’s Head of Drama, Jane Gogan, said that they were “delighted with last night’s viewing figures”.

Why did she think that people tuned in in their droves?

Love/Hate’s special appeal comes from the creativity and ingenuity of the many people involved in making the series so it is particularly pleasing to see the work strike a chord with so many. I hope that the audience enjoy the remaining episodes of series 4.

What with the first episode alone featuring not just a murdered cat, but a tiger kidnapping, frightening masks and mysterious fizzy orange, we predict that audience figures won’t be seeing a sharp drop any time soon.

Didn’t get to watch the episode? We have a recap right here over on DailyEdge.ie.
