I can assure you three taxis drove behind the first set of ambulances and fire engines, and then hit the hard shoulder, then blocking the following Gardai and Emergency response units! Then after 40 minutes saw a bloke with son try and chastise the emergency services for not hurrying up!

The acceptable norm on certain streaches is 80kmh others is 60kmh others is 100kmh weather can bring it even lower. When I say speed kills, I mean ANY speed kills. There are more people killed by those driving at or under the limit than breaking it on other roads And for you Ciaran, the Q is WHY have they increased. I suppose it’s just convenient to round it off at 120kmh rather than 110kmh. What’s more important, To get from a to b a few minutes earlier or a person’s life? That is my point. And for the number of thumbs down it just goes to show the lack of education on road safety

I absolutely agree with the lack of education comment; I would add that that starts at the top. By that I mean the councils that set the speed limits as well as the design of some of the roads: short off-ramps, inadequate road markings. poor signage………..and, of course driver behaviour subsequently. A Highway Code like the one in the UK would be a good start.

Ed. I totally agree with you on that one.It definitely does start at the top. If the RSA can’t tell you what a road sign means what hope have the rest of us got.

The UK limit is being increased to 80 MPH. The limit on that stretch of the M1 is 50mph!!
