At least three cars were involved in the collision on the M50 near Sandyford last night. The Garda Ombudsman is part of the investigation into the incident.

SEVEN PEOPLE HAVE been injured after a man driving a car the wrong way down the M50 southbound near Sandyford collided with at least two other vehicles last night.

The Garda Ombudsman is among those investigating the incident which left the male driver of the car going in the wrong direction in a critical condition at Beaumont Hospital.

Six other people including three adults and three children were among those injured and they were taken to St Vincent’s and Tallaght Hospitals in Dublin.

The crash happened shortly after 8pm last night when the car entered the M50 at junction 15 in the Carrickmines area and travelled north on the southbound carriageway.

The car collided with a number of other vehicles as it travelled in the wrong direction until it came to halt halfway towards junction 14. It is believed that the car was being pursued by gardaí.

This has led to the involvement of the Garda Ombudsman which was called to the incident last night.

A source said that the scene was “horrendous”.
