POLICE INVESTIGATING THE death of two-year-old Jamie Heaton, who died in a huge gas explosion in Manchester on Tuesday, have arrested a man on suspicion of manslaughter.

Manchester police said the 32-year-old man was arrested in London today on suspicion of the young boy’s death, the Guardian reports.

The toddler died when a massive explosion demolished his home and that of his neighbours in a Manchester estate on Tuesday morning.

One neighbour was airlifted to hospital for treatment to burn injuries and remains in a serious but stable condition.

A spokesperson for the National Grid said the company had completed its investigation and found that the gas blast was not caused by a leak from distribution pipes.

Assistant Chief Constable Steve Heywood of Greater Manchester police said the explosion may not be accidental so they are treating the death as suspicious and it is now a homicide investigation.

Reports of a domestic dispute in the area on Monday evening are being investigated and Heywood urged anyone with information to contact police.

Heywood cautioned that this arrest was only one line of investigation being pursued. He said police have a number of witnesses to interview but at this time they do not know the exact cause for the fire.
