GARDAÍ HAVE SEALED OFF A HOUSE in Athlone today, following the arrest of a man in his 60s in connection with the disappearance of a woman in Athlone, Co Westmeath, last week.

The man is being questioned at Athlone Garda Station on suspicion of murder, and the property is understood to be in the Monksland area of the town.

Marie Greene, 37, of St Mel’s Terrace, Athlone, was last seen on Sunday 13 February in the Athlone area.

She was wearing blue jeans, white runners and a navy zipped-up fleece, and is described as being 5′ 5” in height, of slim build and with a fair complexion.

She has medium-length brown hair which is normally tied back in a pony tail.

Her mother, Winnie Greene, said last week that it was out of character for Marie not to keep in touch with her family.

She said she was concerned that Marie “is either dead or someone is holding her”. She also said Marie left their house at 9pm that Sunday night and when she tried to call her at 10.30pm, there was no answer.

The search for Marie continues and gardaí are appealing to anyone with information to contact them on on 090 6498 550 or via the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
