Man's body found during search of Co Wicklow river

The body of a man in his 70s was recovered by search teams from the gardaí and the civil defence this afternoon.

THE BODY OF a man in his 70s has been recovered in a river near Avoca.

A garda spokesperson told TheJournal.ie that the man had been reported missing earlier in the day and members of the Garda Síochána and Civil Defence were involved in searching for him.

In what was described as a tragic incident, the man was found near the meeting of the waters.

RTÉ reports that the man’s daughter attempted to rescue her father but was unable to. She was helped out of the river.
