Man dies after being found unconscious in Portlaoise overnight

Gardaí are appealing for information about what happened in Market Square in the early hours of this morning.

A 52-YEAR-OLD man has been pronounced dead at Midlands Regional Hospital after being found unconscious in Portlaoise overnight.

Gardaí said today that the man was found lying unconscious at Market Square about 3.20am and was taken to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The scene at Market Square remains preserved for a full technical and forensic examination. The State Pathologist has been notified and a post-mortem exam will take place this afternoon.

Gardaí investigating the circumstances surrounding the death are appealing for anybody who was in the vicinity of Market Square between 3am and 3.30am this morning to contact them on 057 867 4100.
