Man found hiding in garden after leaving scene where car hit traffic lights

The 19-year-old was arrested in Derry.

A 19-YEAR-OLD MAN has been arrested following a one-vehicle road traffic accident that occurred on Madam’s Bank Road in Derry.

Just after 9.40pm on Saturday, police received a report that a car had collided with traffic lights in the area. It was then reported that the driver made off from the scene.

Local police, with the assistance of the PSNI’s Air Support Unit, located the man hiding in a garden in the Greenhaw Road area just before 11pm.

Sergeant Joe George said: “The 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a number of motoring offences including dangerous driving and driving with excess alcohol. He has since been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

We received a lot of assistance from members of the public who reported seeing the road traffic collision and the man.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank them all for their assistance as their information was vital in helping us to find this man and making the arrest.”
