Man in court over false imprisonment of family

The incident involved a family with two young children, who were held hostage in 2009.

A MAN IS to appear in court this morning charged in connection with an armed incident/false imprisonment at a Dublin home.

The 43-year-old man will appear before Blanchardstown District Court in relation to an incident that occurred in the Johnsbridge Estate area of Lucan on 23 October 2009.

The incident occurred at about 1am on that date, when a number of armed and masked men forced their way into a house in Johnsbridge Estate.

Inside were the occupants, a husband and wife and their two children, a boy aged 6 and a girl aged 3.

The masked men held the family hostage and at about 6am the husband and the two children were taken from the house in a van.

The woman drove to her workplace, at a financial institution in Inchicore, Dublin 8, in a black Toyota Rav 4.

She left work at around mid-day and then left her car with a quantity of cash inside at Liffey Gael’s, GAA Club in Inchicore, Dublin 8.

The alarm was raised and gardaí found the man and the two children unharmed at Toghers Industrial Estate outside Naas, Co Kildare, where they had been held inside the van.
