Two killed in separate Co Cork crashes

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to a fatal crash in Mons. A second man was killed in a separate accident in Ballinhassig today.

GARDAÍ ARE appealing for information surrounding two fatal road accidents in Co Cork today.

One man aged in his early 50s was killed when his car collided with a truck at Mons on the N22 Macroom to Killarney road at around 2.20pm today.

The truck driver was not injured.

The road has been closed in both directions between Macroom and Ballyvourney to facilitate an examination of the scene and diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing to any witnesses to contact them on 026 20590, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or through any garda station.

Ballinhassig

Separately, a man in his 20s was killed when the 4 x 4 vehicle he was driving struck a ditch near Bawnleigh, between Halfway and Kinsale. The incident occurred at around 6pm and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road is closed pending the arrival of collision investigators.
