How awful for you both . You are right as an assault is ”only” an assault unless the person dies or is left in a vegetative state…The laws should be re assessed and sentences applied accordingly . I am glad you all survived this brutal assault /attack.

Hi Susie, the laws are there, there are 3 types of assault in Ireland assault, assault causing harm and causing serious harm, the maxumum sentence for serious harm is life imprisonment. The sentencing is the issue.

It is utterly disgraceful that was not the sentence handed down to those animals.

…and isn’t it strange Anton how Government ‘sheep’ follow and defend every action without critical debate? I notice that while you agree with Suzie that the Government are closing Garda stations, you then ignore the point and go off on a pro Government rant about civilian support in stations. Any reduction in social services is wrong, especially when there is such a recognised need for those services. If this Government are serious about crime prevention then why not do both? Support the Gardai as community police but leave them community based. By the way, Suzie’s comment is democratic and not socialist because we can still have a critical debate here about our Government’s policies, despite what people like you say. But then you’re the kind of person who resorts to name calling so you might not understand that concept.

They’re not firing the Garda from the stations they close! Still be the same amount and actually more on the streets…
