Man seriously injured in Laois assault

Gardaí in Abbeyleix are seeking the public’s assistance in relation to a serious assault that occurred on Sunday morning.

GARDAÍ IN LAOIS are investigating the circumstances of a serious assault which has left one man hospitalised with head injuries.

A 31-year-old man has been transferred from Portlaoise General to Beaumont hospital in Dublin with serious head injuries sustained in the assault.

At about 2am on Sunday morning, the man was set upon by a number of males on Moore Street in Rathdowney, said Gardaí.

Two men in their 30s were arrested yesterday morning but were later released without charge.

Gardaí are now appealing for anyone who may have been in the Moore Street area between 1.30am and 2.30am on Sunday to contact the Abbeyleix station on 057 873 0580 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1 800 666 111.
