    • Completely agree but in Ireland the victims are the only ones that end up with real sentences to serve! Justice system is a joke of the highest order, why can’t we do anything right anymore!

    • Put him in the tiger mauling story, let him feel fear and what it’s like to be attacked by a big, strong animal with no respect for your humanity. The difference being of course that the tiger is absolved of blame as it hasn’t morals or conscience… But this other animal…

  • He’ll only get a slap on the wrist… 2 months max, and a fine… and he’ll be out to do the same again by christmas! There is no justice system in Ireland…. we all know this!

  • Hang the bastard

    • That’s a little bit over the top. We don’t put people to death anymore . That’s as barbaric as the offence he’s alleged to have committed. BUT please ensure if he is guilty that his sentence is at the upper range.

    • Ahh go away out if that would you be so lenient if that was your mother ? So you’re saying send him down for 10 to 15 with 4 square meals a day, do me a favour….

    • Little over the top! Ive seen some stupid comments on this site but that tops it assaulting an 86 year old defenseless woman and putting her into a critical condition as she walks home in the middle of the day yeah I suppose a three year sentence for assault is suitable

    • @ Ruadhri… 3 years? Come off the stage… he is a serious treat to the vulnerable… the sentence should match the crime and risk to society… 10 years at least!!

    • Thats what I mean Michael I was referring to Marks comment about him getting a sentence at the upper range, the upper range for something like this would be three years which is a joke for assaulting an elderly woman this guy should be locked up for life for such a cowardly act

    • @Mark – I agree with you that often these happenings bring out over-the-top statements like the ones you highlighted.

What many of the above posters could do with thinking about is that there is a suitable punishment for crimes. By “hanging the bastard” who does this type of crime you wouldn’t see this type of crime any more – that’s true.

What you would see instead is this story turning into murder. Why would a thief stop at assault when they face death or life imprisonment?

Lots of people don’t think that far ahead and so stick to the over the top comments.

In the same vein, if you have a death sentence for murder then murderers tend not to leave witnesses. The natural thirst that society has for punishment can actually contribute to crime.

Not that I am any less disgusted by this – but the punishment should fit the crime and not the vehemence expressed in casual conversation.

  • I’d like to put him into a room with that old ladys family and let them go to work on him….dirty bastard!!! And for ye few do-gooders that made comments on don’t be too harsh on him….shame on ye. As one of the comments above said itd be a different story if it was your own mother that was assaulted!!!

    • Yes it would be – but it’s not, so I don’t have to agree with the idea of a “punishment beating”.

You have to love the way people think…. “There’s no justice in Ireland” followed quickly by “put him in a room”.

Anyone guilty of this type of crime deserves appropriate punishment. We, as citizens, deserve a justice system that is trustworthy.

If this case comes up in a couple of years and it’s widely felt this guy doesn’t get what he deserves through the justice system will you be waving a banner alongside this family to protest?

    • Also, re: the “do-gooders” comment – I think you’ve not picked up in the sarcasm by the posters.

  • That’s exactly what’s wrong with the justice system in this country.to lenient and out of date.bastards like him play no role in Society except to inflict misery on people.simple answer, remove them from the equation.

Ah but god love him, Maybe he had a tough childhood, maybe he was drunk or high on drugs at the time so let’s put him on a rehab course and if he’s of good behaviour let’s give him a suspended sentence and hope he gets well in the future. That, people, is the Irish justice system.

  • Another case of troubled childhood…….needs to have a troubled adulthood…burn em.

  • Could we not set up an agreement with Thailand and Mexico to house these vermin for a few years in their already overcrowded jails. The holiday camps in Ireland are doing more harm than good and certainly not acting as a deterrent.
Why can’t we just deport these creeps who are clearly no longer welcome in their own countries. I am all for free movement within the EU but it is high time there was background checks done on other EU citizens entering Ireland.

  • Question for the do-gooders on here , heaven forbid if it was your mother in that situation what punishment would you recommend ?
