From prison to the Saturday Night Show...Margaretta D'Arcy to be released today

The 79-year-old will be freed from the Dóchas Centre at Mountjoy Prison at 10.30am this morning.

PEACE ACTIVIST MARGARETTA D’Arcy is to be released from prison today and will appear on RTÉ’s Saturday Night Show later this evening.

D’Arcy was sentenced to three months in prison for refusing to stay out of unauthorised zones at Shannon Airport during protests against the use of the airport by US military planes.

The 79-year-old will be freed from the Dóchas Centre at Mountjoy Prison at 10.30am this morning.

She is due to speak to members of the press at a Dublin hotel this afternoon. She will wear an orange jumpsuit to show solidarity with the prisoners of Guantanamo Bay.

There has been an active campaign over the last few months for D’Arcy’s release from prison and she received separate visits from President Higgins’ wife Sabina and Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams.

She is due to appear in court on 24 June this year in relation to a September 2013 protest when the US were mulling military action in Syria.
