Are you registered to vote? Same-sex marriage campaigners want you to check

Whichever way you want to vote, get your name in.

A CAMPAIGN HAS been launched to ensure people are registered to vote before next year’s referendum on marriage equality.

Although there is no date yet for the vote (we know that it will be in the spring), the electoral register for 2015 is being compiled and will be be published on 1 November.

If you are not on it though, you do have other options.

Additions to the register are welcome between 1 and 25 November. Those wishing to vote in the marriage equality referendum, but who are not on the register yet, can fill out this form and return it to their local authority.

If by 1 February next year, you’re still not there, another form must be filled out and returned at least two weeks before the polls open.

It is understood a date will be set once a number of legal issues surrounding adoption are dealt with.

In its Programme for Government, the coalition committed to calling a vote on marriage equality during its term in office.

The most recent poll taken by Irish Times/MRBI poll found that 67% of people stating they would vote in favour of same-sex marriage.

Minister of State for Equality Aodhán Ó Riordáin has started a series of public meetings on the issue, with the first one taking place earlier this month in Sligo.

How will you vote next year? Will you vote in favour of the introduction of same-sex marriage?
