Mars withdraws Skittles, Starburst and Milky Way drinks over health risk

The drinks may contain a bacteria which can cause food poisoning.

FIVE MARS CHOCOLATE drinks are being recalled from shelves as they may contain a bacteria which poses a health risk.

The five drinks involved all have sports caps, are 350ml in size, and have best before dates of between 19 December 2014 and 11 April 2015. They were manufactured in Germany.

The drinks are:

  • Starburst Strawberry Drink
  • Skittles Drink
  • Galaxy Smooth Milk
  • Mars Milk
  • Milky Way Milk

In a statement, Mars Chocolate Drinks said it was a voluntary recall and urged consumers who have bought them not to drink them.

“We want to ensure that anyone in possession of these products with these best before dates is aware that they should not be consumed and that contact should be made with our customer care team for more information,” the statement said.

The batches are being recalled due to the presence of bacteria called Bacillus, which can cause food poisoning.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland has been notified.
