How Marty Morrissey and his cardboard cut-out own the Ploughing

What does the real Marty make of it all?

TheJournal.ie / YouTube

EVER HUMBLE, MARTY Morrissey was at a loss to explain the adulation he’s greeted with each year at the National Ploughing Championships.

Not that he was lost for words entirely, mind, when TheJournal.ie caught up with him. The GAA presenter had plenty to say about the biggest event in rural Ireland’s calendar – taking place this year in Screggan, near Tullamore.

Around the corner, people were still queueing for pictures and selfies next to a cardboard cut-out of Marty. Two-dimensional versions of his presenting colleagues, also propped up outside the RTÉ tent, drew comparatively little interest.

Asked what he made of the steady line of people lining up for a snap with his cardboard clone, the host responded: “”I have absolutely no idea … he’s a very good-looking chap.”
