Two arrests over death of man attacked with his guitar

There have been a number of other arrests in connection with Matthew Goddard’s death. So far, no-one has been charged.

POLICE IN BELFAST have made two arrests as part of their investigation into the death of a man in east Belfast over the Christmas break.

The body of 41-year-old Matthew Goddard was discovered at his home in Chobham Street, at around 9.40pm on Christmas Eve.

He was last seen alive the previous evening.

Police say he was attacked and beaten with his own electric guitar in the house.

In a statement last week, Detective Chief Inspector John McVea appealed for anyone who may have been in the area ”between 11.00pm and midnight on Tuesday, 23 December and may have heard or seen a disturbance to contact detectives”.

Two men aged 29 and 35 were arrested yesterday, the PSNI confirmed.

There have been a number of other arrests in connection with the case, but no-one has been charged.
