MISSING BRITISH SCHOOLGIRL, Megan Stammers has been found in France and taken into protection, Sussex Police said today.

The 15-year-old was found at around midday with her maths teacher Jeremy Forest who was subsequently arrested on suspicion of child abduction.

Stammers was reported missing on 20 September when she failed to turn up for school. The pair had not been seen since being filmed boarding a cross-Channel ferry together that day.

Both sets of parents had appealed for them to get in touch but had played down fears that the schoolgirl could be in any danger.

A European Arrest Warrant had been issued for Forrest, a married part-time musician who had reportedly begun an affair with his pupil.

AFP reported that the pair were found on a public street in the centre of Bordeaux and a spokesperson for French police said the girl was “in good health”.

Following Stammer’s discovery, her father Martin thanked the public for their assistance on Twitter.

In a statement, Susex police said the information which led to them being located came as a direct result of media coverage in France.

Police said arrangements will now be made for their safe return to Britain.
