Two men arrested after gardaí give chase to filling station robbers

The men were detained by gardaí as they tried to escape on foot.

TWO MEN HAVE been arrested following a robbery at a Donegal filling station.

Gardaí say two males armed with iron bars entered a filling station on the Donegal Road in Killybegs at around 4.50pm yeterday.

They damaged the shop, threatening staff and demanding cash, before leaving with a sum of money.

The robbers fled in a Ford Focus, but the car crashed outside Donegal Town, forcing its three occupants to escape on foot.

A number of gardaí responded to the call, including a traffic unit whose vehicle was rammed by their getaway car.

Two men in their 20s were arrested following a foot chase, while a third male escaped.

Both are being detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Ballyshannon Garda station and are scheduled to appear at a special sitting of Sligo District Court at 11am to be charged in relation to the incident.
