AHEAD OF ANOTHER day of searching, family and friends of missing student Michael Bugler gathered in Galway today for prayers.

The New Year’s Eve service was held at Calasanctius College in Oranmore. Search teams resumed their work at noon. It is the 13th day of the large scale operation in the city.

Michael, a 20-year-old law student, has not been seen since 1am on 18 December.

Hundreds of people have gathered every day over the Christmas period to help gardaí in their search.

Inclement weather is hampering the work as Galway continues to see heavy rain and wind. Volunteers have been asked to bring good footwear, rain gear and walking sticks as the shoreline is slippy underfoot.

Family and friends of Michael’s have taken to Facebook to thank people for their support and to ask for more help.

CCTV footage examined as part of the search has showed Michael passing the Claddagh church at 00.58am on 18 December. It appears that he was on his way home to Fairhill Road.

His sister Laura revealed earlier this week that there had been some potential sightings of Michael at the Gort na Coirbe student village on Headford Road in the centre of the city at 3am.

We have made good progress with CCTV today and there have some potential sightings at Gort na Coirbe at approximately 3am.

“If you have seen Michael at any point in the night please contact me and let me know.”

Michael is described as being 5’9″ in height, of thin build with short brown hair and blue eyes. When last seen he was wearing a blue coloured jumper and jeans.

Originally from Ennis in county Clare, he is a third year student at NUIG.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who has any information on his whereabouts to contact them at Galway Garda Station on 091 538000, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666111 or any Garda Station.
