In pictures: Michael D Higgins meets President Hollande in Paris

Lovely weather they’re having in France….

PRESIDENT MICHAEL D Higgins is in Paris this week and yesterday met with his French counterpart Francois Hollande and launched a major art exhibition in the capital.

It was day one of the President’s three-day visit to France with yesterday’s meeting with Hollande focussing on EU affairs, and Ireland’s presidency of the EU.

Today the President is delivering an address entitled ‘Drawing water from the same well – the central importance of UNESCO in building peace through the recognition of the power of culture’ at UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation.

A Franco-Irish business networking lunch and later an Irish community reception are also on the agenda.

But here are a few pictures from day one of the trip:

Finally, someone who’d make Sarkozy look tall. Bet Sarky’s regretting not managing his career so both were president at the same time.

  • With all the flag waving for Higgins’ visit, there was no sign of our tricolour! What’s the problem? Didn’t he bring one with him? Doesn’t the French Dept of Foreign Affairs budget run to foreign flags?

why do so many people like Michael D, he cost too much a quarter of a million a year plus the cost of flying him all over the world. he thinks it is okay to take that kind of money out of tax payers pockets while 272,000 children are living in poverty. As for the legislation and him signing it, no he didn’t have to sign it. Maybe with rules etc he was obliged to sign it but no government representative stick with rules this arrangement broke the policy outlined at eu summit but MD he had no choice, I would rather resign then sign that. Would have had so much respect for him. All he wants is to fly around talking crap and getting a big salary. How does he deserve to be paid that much, does he really have good morals if he can cost the state that much when people are going hungry and are sitting in cold houses. He should be here meeting his own people who are suffering. Not once has he even mentioned it. I have not seen him or heard him speak on anything important since the election.

    • No – when they go abroad – they always say how wonderful the Irish are and how happy they are at paying other peoples bills .
I think they want to attrct ” investment / jobs ” at compeitive wage levels [ ie low wnd getting lower – and basically they are getting away with murder – and I dont use the word lightly .
those of u who are unfortunate enought to rember the film ” ON THE bEACH ” – Well hopefully the govt will ofer us that way out anyway .
As for Higgins – - he is beyond words . a socilaist ????????????????????? who helps screw the people .
