Man questioned over Michael Kelly murder is released

There have been four previous arrests in connection with the killing, which happened close to the Luas line in Dublin 8 last month.

A MAN ARRESTED yesterday in connection with the fatal shooting of Michael Kelly in Dublin on 15 July has been released without charge.

27-year-old Kelly was found with “obvious gunshot wounds”at Grand Canal Place close to St James’s Hospital last month and pronounced dead at the scene.

A short time later gardaí recovered a firearm from a burnt out vehicle in Rialto and a number of appeals were made at the time, as the incident took place adjacent to a Luas line. Two trams were passing as the attack was carried out, and gardaí believe dozens of people may have witnessed the immediate aftermath of the incident.

Four people – one man and three women aged in their mid 30s to 40s – were previously arrested in relation to the attack. They were released two days later without charge, and a file was sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

A man in his 20s was picked up by gardaí yesterday for questioning at Kevin Street Garda Station. He was released this evening. Gardaí say the investigation is ongoing.
