The substance was found during the screening process and the man was removed from the prison by gardaí.

GARDAÍ HAVE QUESTIONED a solicitor after he was found in possession of suspected cocaine in Mountjoy prison.

A source told TheJournal.ie prison staff found the substance in the Dublin-based solicitor’s wallet.

The prison service confirmed a man going through the screening process “was identified as having an item of contraband” and was removed by gardaí.

A garda spokesperson said a man was questioned in relation to “a substance” that was discovered on his person. They were called to Mountjoy at around 6.30pm yesterday. The incident was first reported by the Irish Daily Star.

Gardaí said no arrest has been made but the investigation into this incident is ongoing.
