One Labour MP, Neil Coyle, said he had contacted police over a now-deleted tweet that he was sent. The tweet said: “u [sic] voted for airstrikes in syria , if i see u round ends [sic]“, followed by three knife emojis.

Coyle represents Bermondsey and Old Southwark.

A spokesperson from the Metropolitan Police told TheJournal.ie:

Police are aware of a number of threats made on social media relating to Members of Parliament. An assessment of these threats is ongoing.

Sky News reports that Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has written to party members, warning against “abuse and intimidation” in politics.

Sixty six Labour MPs voted last night in support of extending air strikes to Syria.

The vote was passed after 397 MPs voted in favour and 223 voted against deploying the Royal Air Force to launch air strikes.

The Labour Party has been divided over the issue, with Corbyn strongly opposed to British military intervention.
