BRENDAN O’CARROLL’S COMEDY Mrs Brown’s Boys has picked up one of the most prestigious awards for a comedy programme after winning the award for best situation-comedy at the BAFTAs.
The BBC/RTE produced programme beat off competition from Fresh Meat, Friday Night Dinner and Rev to win the award.
At a ceremony in London last night, the Finglas comedian told the audience that all he and the cast and crew wanted to do was “make people laugh”.
O’Carroll was one of a number of Irish winners at last night’s Television BAFTAs: Graham Norton won the Best Entertainment Performance award for The Graham Norton Show and actor Andrew Scott won the award for Supporting Actor for his role as Moriarty in Sherlock.
O’Carroll had also been nominated for best male performance in a comedy programme but lost out to Darren Boyd for his role in Spy.
Appropriate Adult, the drama programme about Fred and Rosemary West which had led the pack with four nominations, won three acting awards including Best Actor for Dominic West and Best Actress for Emily Watson.
