Man in court after threatening shop worker with knife, stealing money and phones

The man was arrested in the Mullingar area.

A MAN IS due to appear in court after threatening shop staff with a knife.

Gardaí said that at approximately 12pm yesterday, a lone male entered a shop on Austin Friars Street, Mullingar and threatened the staff member with a knife.

He then left the shop with a sum of money and a number of mobile phones. No one was injured during the robbery.

Gardaí who were searching for the culprit later arrested a male in his 30s in connection with the robbery, detaining him under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Mullingar Garda Station.

He is scheduled to appear before Mullingar District Court at 10.30 am this morning charged in connection with the robbery.
