Two arrested over killing of 31-year-old man at Belfast home

The man was found dead by his mother in the upstairs bedroom of the house.

Updated at 7.30pm

TWO MEN HAVE been arrested by police investigating the murder last night of a 31-year-old man at his home in Belfast.

Conor McKee was found dead by his mother in the upstairs bedroom of his home on Glenpark Street in north Belfast at around 10.30pm last night.

The PSNI confirmed that two men, aged 37 and 44, were arrested in Antrim and in Belfast this evening, and that they had been taken in for questioning.

In a statement earlier, the senior investigating officer in the case made three specific appeals for information.

Early hours phonecall

“Firstly, I am appealing for anyone who was in the area of Glenpark Street around 6.15 last night who saw or heard anything unusual or suspicious to contact police,” Detective Chief Inspector Justyn Galloway said.

“I am particularly keen to talk to anyone who saw a man outside the McKee house, which is number 5, at around 6.15pm.

“Secondly, I am making a specific appeal to the person who rang police in the early hours of this morning with information about the murder to call back.

“We really need to talk to that person.

“Thirdly, I would appeal to those people who knew Conor, who were his friends, to engage with police to help us build a picture of his life, his activities and his movements.

The more information we have, the greater the likelihood is that we will bring his killer or killers to justice.

Drugs charges

The BBC reports that the victim was on bail for drugs charges at the time of the attack.

Detective Chief Inspector Galloway described him as “a father of two young children, a son, a brother and a partner”.

“This is a devastating tragedy for the McKee family and a terrible shock for the local community,” he added.

We are in the early stages of this investigation and, while we are following a number of lines of enquiry, we are keeping an open mind as to the motive for Conor’s murder.

Anyone with any information is being asked to contact detectives at Musgrave Police Station on the non-emergency number 101. Information can also be passed anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

A post-mortem has been carried out, but details have not been released.
