Gilmore to meet with Palestinian legislator in Dublin

Mustafa Barghouthi will also meet with representatives of all political parties.

TÁNAISTE EAMON GILMORE is to meet with Palestinian activist and legislator Dr Mustafa Barghouthi next week.

Barghouti will be in the country from 3 to 5 December on invitation from lobby group SADAKA, the Ireland Palestine Alliance, and will meet with the minister and with representatives of all political parties in the country.

A spokesperson for the Tánaiste and Foreign Affairs Minster said that, as a member of the Palestinian legislative council and a prominent human rights activist, Barghouthi had been invited to meet with Gilmore.

They said Gilmore and the Palestinian legislator will discuss the current situation in the occupied territories and the ongoing peace talks that are taking place.

A former secular candidate for president of Palestine, Barghouthi has been a strong advocate of non-violent responses to the Israeli occupation.

During his visit, he will also take part in round table discussions with academics, trade unionists and NGOs.

Next Wednesday he will address a public meeting ‘Promossed Lands – How Israel sabotaged the Two State Solution’ at Liberty Hall, Dublin at 6.30pm.
