This is the most colourful photo ever taken by the Hubble Space Telescope

Shiny!

IN ITS 24 years, the Hubble Space Telescope has photographed some of the most amazing things in our universe.

Planetary nebulas, stars going supernova, dense galaxies, the oldest known star… the telescope has seen a lot.

Now, it has taken this photograph which, NASA says, is the most colourful view of the universe ever captured by the telescope.

The picture is not just any old one: it is a composite of images taken from between 2003 and 2012, carefully put together to give a picture of the evolving universe.

What are we looking at here? Approximately 10,000 galaxies, extending back in time to within a few hundred million years of the Big Bang.

The telescope had to make 841 orbits across the nine years to assemble the comprehensive photo.

Stunning.
