Do new car sales actually mean we're better off?

New figures on Friday showed a spike of over 30% on sales in the first quarter.

NEW FIGURES RELEASED by the CSO on Friday showed that new car sales rose by over 30% in the first quarter of the year.

A total of 68,375 private cars were licensed, an increase of more than 15,000 on the same period the year before.

While the sales figures are often pointed to as an indicator of the country’s improving economic fortunes, others are more sceptical.

So, today we’re asking: Do new car sales mean we’re better off?
