I have seen that old logo all my life and just now seen the IE in it…

It’s not there yet, but it’s getting there.

The new one looks like its not sure what direction to go! The old one was all forward, I liked it.

This is just the same as the ESB rebrand. It serves no purpose, costs a lot and does nothing to improve service. I say this as someone very interested in graphic design and branding. TV show or website re-branding is one thing as all there is are some shiny new fairly inexpensive graphics, but if Iarnród Éireann are going to spend massive money on printing and emblazoning this across all literature, signage and rolling stock with no tangible benefit it’s scandalous. Hope George Hook socks it to Barry Kenny on his next monthly appearance on Hook’s radio show!

Moan moan moanady moan. It’s a new logo. I like it. All companies update their branding at regular intervals. Think of the creatives it employed. It created work.

I’d be sending the designers back to the drawing board. All I see is the letter ‘N’ and the Irish flag – which means what?

Looks like an logo for Sinn Féin Origami. Tourists will definitely not get its related to anything travel related. Very lazy design imho.

The typography in the old logo is smarter but the refresh of colour isn’t a bad move.

What a waste of money there is no need to change the logo.

It looked nice for the first thirty seconds, but then it started to look plain and unfriendly, not a big pile of imagination went into the design, as we can see. The old one is just as bad.

Who ever designed the logo should get a bonus , who ever approved this logo should get a bonus , who ever allowed the money to be spent on the replacement of the logo should get a bonus , after-all it’s what we do in this country ( f**k things up or waste money you get a bonus )

Was this new logo got from some primary schools competition.? It is awful. Makes it look like the trains have stopped moving.So basic. So boring. So unimaginative. I’m falling asleep just looking at it. OOps!! Better not or I’ll miss my stop. Oh, we’re only in Inchicore!!!!

It looks like a letter N. It has tacky colour gradients. The old one was fine.

Irish Rail actually had a fairly consistent corporate identity for the first time in many years and this redesign just makes a mess of that. It’s not just the up-front cost of getting the redesigned logo that we should be concerned about, it’s the cost over the next few years of replacing every logo on every piece of stationery, every sign, every uniform, every train, etc. Of course, they might not make those changes promptly, in which case bye-bye hard-won, consistent branding and hello confusion.

The money they spent on rebranding would have been better spent on improving their online booking system. This is a pointless exercise for a state monopoly.

Whose brainchild was this? Clearly some pen pusher bored off their tree on flexi time looking to drain more state resources. For shame CIE.

The green font colour on the new logo clashes with the green on the graphic. If a prospective art student included this design in their portfolio it wouldn’t help their application

Added the English. Doesn’t work as a logo. Should have put it under the “Eireann”.

What a crock dreadful logo

The company is losing millions and cutting services so Management spend god knows how many hundreads of thousands on a new logo. How much will this cost to introduce? New headed paper god knows how many signs and trains and carriages to change. What in the hell are Irish Rail Management up to? Finally why in Gods name did Leo the loser Minister approve such a waste of citizens money for? We thought the Maggies & Anglo deal was taking the pi$$, but this is the final two fingers to the Irish tax payer.

I like the design, but using the flag colours seems a bit cheesy. Like it’s bad enough green is the colour for An Post, RTÉ (together with blue) and a miriad of other State companies, but now they want to use the whole damn flag?

Green is a fine colour, and there’s nothing wrong with the flag, but a bit more imagination please!

Family of four to Galway from Dublin on train €100. In car €40 – €50 in fuel and tolls in less time and door to door. No contest. Scrap the whole thing. Costing taxpayer a fortune.

I would’ve preferred if it was just in Irish.

I find it a ridiculously toyish logo. It took me a while to realize it has the Irish flag in it. It’s also a mockery of the Dutch Railways logo. Very poorly designed and has no appeal whatsoever. Made by amateurs in very little time. Also the use of gradients is nonsensical for a logo, which is most often printed in black and white and must be highly visible. As a foreign national living in Ireland I find the English subtitle arrogant, I am surprised the Irish let their language be diminished little by little like this. The argument that it saves jobs is futile; whose country are the jobs saved at the expense of the Irish commuter and taxpayer?

i really miss the old mark 2 and mark 3carriages. the old black and orange carriages remind me of a simpler time.

The old one is a classic but I don’t mind the new design. I like how the flag is built into the design, I don’t like the Irish Rail written in green though would have been better in black and smaller font that the Iarnrod Eireann. I also don’t get people opposing the inclusion of the flag, we are in Ireland it’s the flag, green and orange are the national colours, so why are people bitching????

It just looks like some stock logo you can buy for 10 quid. The current logo – or even the one before that – were way smarter. It’s pointless, faddy, and obviously some exec at Irish Rail liked it because he/she has absolutely no idea about anything brand related, much like every single public body in Ireland.

At long last it recognises that people speak English in this country.

I worked for CIE Group and its CEO insisted my name had to be printed in Irish rather than English on my business card despite my insisting that my name was what was on my birth cert and passport.

I HATE CHANGE!!

The question wasn’t about the quality of services or the value for money or even what was spent. The question was about whether the new logo is better than the old logo.

Its like “never let the actual issue get in the way of a tension-relieving rant”.

My opinion? I think the old logo was a poor re-working of the post-independence CIE logo with the horizontal lines. The new logo has the national colours, a replica of our national flag. This should be our most obvious and supported trend for publicly funded organisations. I think every An Post, council, Garda vehicle etc should carry our national flag, or at least it’s colours. Who are we after all?

Saw this ages ago

Should be in English only. We are trying to be user friendly and helpful to tourists and non nationals living here. We need to leave the dark ages behind us and not create another separated society like that in Northern Ireland.
