€282m road deal to create 1,000 jobs and a Newlands Cross flyover

Works are expected to start in May.

OVER 1,000 CONSTRUCTION jobs will be created in a €282 million deal that will see parts of the N7 and N11 updated.

The N7 works will comprise of replacing the junction at Newlands Cross with a flyover, which will make the bottleneck a traffic light free area.

BAM Construction signed the public private partnership contract with the National Roads Authority on behalf of the Department of Transport for the works.

The PPP also includes a 16 km dual carriageway on the N11 between the Arklow bypass and the Ashford bypass and two new separated interchanges at the Beehive junction and at Jack White’s cross-roads.

A service station will also be built at Ballyellin on the Gorey bypass, along with various upgrade works along the existing Arklow and Gorey bypasses.

Works are expected to start in May, with the construction phase completed within 28 months of commencement, and complete construction of the new section of the N7 within 21 months.

BAM will take responsibility under a 25 year concession for the operation and maintenance of the 35km length of the Arklow bypass and Gorey bypass from mid-2013 and for the new sections of the N7 and N11 when construction is completed.

BAM has already constructed the M1 Dundalk Western Bypass, the M7/M8 Portlaoise Bypass and the M25 Waterford Bypass Motorway schemes.
