PARTING SHOT

Popular Science has been following a livestream of the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico over the past three weeks. From the unbelievable footage by researchers on the Okeanos Explorer, the website has made 10 excellent gifs of deep-sea creatures, such as this dumbo octopus which you can see is using its ear-like fins to swim.

According to NOAA, the coiled-tentacle posture has never before been witnessed in this species. Check out all the gifs here.
