Longford-Westmeath TD Nicky McFadden to be laid to rest today

McFadden passed on Tuesday, following a lengthy battle with Motor Neurone disease.

THE FUNERAL OF Fine Gael TD Nicky McFadden will take place later today.

The 51-year-old mother of two died on Tuesday after a long battle with Motor Neurone disease.

She was diagnosed with the condition in mid-2012, but made a decision to stay on and continue serving her constituents.

Her funeral mass will take place at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Coosan in Athlone at 12 noon with burial afterwards in Coosan Cemetery.

Her family have asked for no flowers to be sent, but donations can be made to the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association or The Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind.

The Taoiseach called McFadden “a woman of great joy”.

“We are uplifted by her courage and her insight into this journey, her ability to make some sense of the savage uncertainly of life as lived.”
