ANTI-WATER CHARGE campaigners started a protest on O’Connell Bridge in Dublin’s city centre this evening, causing rush-hour traffic chaos.

Gardaí confirmed the demonstration has moved to outside the GPO and traffic is stopped in one direction - northbound on O’Connell Street.

Gardaí are in place to divert vehicles. Dublin Bus has also advised customers of delays and diversions.

No traffic is moving on O'Connell St heading Northbound, buses are diverted via Eden Quay, Gardiner St, Parnell Sq. West &back on to route.

Earlier, the protesters blocked O’Connell Bridge but it has since reopened.

Four water charge protesters were sent to prison for contempt of court earlier today.

The protesters gathered outside of the GPO until around 5.30pm before marching towards Mountjoy in protest against the arrests.
