Should broadcasters be held responsible for offending people?

What are the folks on Kildare Street up to today? Well, you asked…

WHAT’S GOING ON in Leinster House?

Every day the Dáil and Seanad are sitting, TheJournal.ie brings you the most comprehensive guide to what our lawmakers are getting up to in the Houses of the Oireachtas.

So, here is what we can expect to be happening in the Dáil, Seanad and Committee rooms today…

1 thing we’ll be keeping an eye on

  • The Dáil will debate the Broadcasting (Amendment) Bill 2014 at 10 am. The Bill was sponsored by Independent TD Stephen Donnelly in the wake of the Pantigate controversy. It proposes removing the word ‘offence’ from the duties of broadcasters section of the Broadcasting Act 2009. Donnelly previously said that its inclusion has the potential to “gag free speech”.
