What’s going on in Leinster House today? Well, since you asked…

WANT TO KNOW what’s going on in Leinster House today?

Every day the Dáil and Seanad are sitting,TheJournal.ie brings you the most comprehensive guide to what our lawmakers are getting up to in the Houses of the Oireachtas.

So here is what we can expect to be happening in the Dáil, Seanad and Committe rooms today…

Four things we’ll be keeping an eye on:

  • Health Minister James Reilly is up first thing for questions in the Dáil at 9.30am. You can take your pick of the recent issues that he may have to discuss – Portlaoise hospital, nursing home beds or recruiting consultants.
  • At the same time of 11am, it’s the turn of the tobacco companies, including PJ Carroll and John Player, to have their say about plans to introduce standardised packaging for cigarettes with the Health and Children committee in Room 2.
  • And, finally, and as usual, Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore will fight the good fight against the opposition from noon during Leaders’ Questions.

Everything else happening in the Dáil:

  • Proposed new laws to allow the ESB to engage in electronic communications services will be discussed at 10.45am and then again from 12.41pm.
  • Talks on banning under 18s from using sunbeds will be resumed – also before and after Leaders’ Questions and the Order of Business.
  • The Bill dealing with the HSE’s financial matters will also be brought up during the afternoon session.
  • The mixed bag of Topical Issues will round off the day from 4.42pm to 5.30pm when the Dáil adjourns.

Everything happening  in the Seanad:

  • The ever-entertaining PAC will gather in Committee Room 1 from 10am to go through the 2012 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General, with specific focus on government debt, NTMA’s accounts, the clinical indemnity scheme and the National Pension Reserve Fund.
  • And at 2pm, the committee for European Union Affairs will hear from the Ireland’s delegates about their experiences on committees of the regions.
