Ireland's oldest citizen Mary Kate Byrne dies, aged 108

She is survived by three generations of her family in Laois.

THE DEATH HAS occurred of Ireland’s oldest woman, Mary Kate Byrne.

She was 108-years-old.

According to KFM, the Maganey resident passed away earlier today. The village is located at the point where Laois and Kildare meet.

Also known as Poppy, the country’s oldest resident was born on 14 August 1904. The President’s Office confirmed her as Ireland’s most senior citizen last year following the death of Anastasia Kelly in Laois.

It is understood that she was visited by three generations of her family every day before her death.
