Prosecution lawyer Gerrie Nel (known as The Pitbull) was brutal while cross-examining the athlete yesterday.

OSCAR PISTORIUS IS to return to the witness box at a Pretoria court this morning, where he will face more questions from prosecution lawyer Gerrie Nel.

Known as The Pitbull in South Africa, the State’s counsel did not hold back yesterday during his cross-examination.

He implored the athlete to “take responsibility” for the death of Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day last year.

“You shot and killed Reeva. Say it,” he shouted to the courtroom.

During the day’s proceedings, a video first revealed by Sky News of Pistorius shooting a watermelon at a range, was shown.

In the clip, the Paralympian can be heard comparing the watermelon to brain matter, describing the bullet as a “zombie stopper”.

After showing the video, Nel put a graphic picture of the victim’s bloodied head in front of the suspect.

“You know that’s the same that happened to Reeva’s head,” he said.

Breaking down in tears, a distressed Pistorius responded:

“I’ve taken responsibility…waiting for my time on this stand to tell my story for the respect of Reeva and for myself.

I’ve taken responsibility but I will not look at a picture where I’m tormented by what I saw and felt that night.

“As I picked her up, my fingers touched her head. I remember. I don’t have to look at a picture. I was there.”

Nel did not hold back, however, stating: “It is the same thing as the watermelon. You had it now in practice”.

The lawyer also requested that the witness stop answering questions with the implications of his answers on his mind.

Asking for him to be wholly truthful, Nel said: ““Reeva doesn’t have a life anymore because of what you’ve done.”

The trial continues at 8.30am today.
