"Devious and calculating predatory paedophile" gets 17-year sentence for rape of boy

Paul Blaikie, 38, had five years added to his jail term for being a “dangerous and manipulative individual” who poses a risk to children.

A JUDGE IN London has sentenced a 38-year-old man to 17 years in prison on two counts of raping a boy under the age of 13.

In court, Paul Blaikie, from St-Leonards-on-Sea in East Sussex, was labelled a “devious and calculating predatory paedophile”.

He knew his victim, and had “infiltrated his way” into the boy’s family, Judge Stephen Waller said, at sentencing.

The rapes took place in south-east London in 2011, and came to light when child welfare agencies raised concerns about the boy to police, who started an investigation.

Blaikie, who previously went by the name Simon Rose, was found guilty last month, and sentenced on Friday, according to a Metropolitan Police statement issued tonight.

Judge Waller handed down a 12-year sentence, adding five years due to the danger posed to the community by Blaikie, who has previous convictions for producing child abuse imagery.

“You have a strong sexual interest in children,” Waller told him.

This is apparent from your previous convictions concerning making indecent images of children. You have now crossed the line into physical assaults.
You gave a false impression to women with whom you initiated a relationship, you being determined to infiltrate yourself into a vulnerable family.
There is no question that you are a devious and calculating predatory paedophile and you remain a danger to young children.

Responding to the 17-year jail term, Acting Detective Sergeant Sandra Voak, who led the case against Blaikie, invited any potential unknown victims to come forward.

Paul Blaikie is an extremely dangerous and manipulative individual who poses a serious risk to children.
We would like to take this opportunity to appeal to any other victims of Paul Blaikie – otherwise known as Simon Rose – to contact police…
Given the nature of his offending, victims may be reluctant to report such crimes to police, but I would like to reassure any victims that our officers are trained to deal with such offences; they will be listened to and treated sensitively.
