BBC broadcaster Paul Gambaccini arrested under Operation Yewtree

The broadcaster had been questioned by police earlier this week.

THE BBC HAS confirmed that its broadcaster Paul Gambaccini has been arrested as part of the Operation Yewtree inquiry.

BBC News reports this evening that the veteran broadcaster was arrested on suspicion of historical sexual offences.

He had been held at his home in South London on Tuesday before being questioned in police custody.

It is expected that the BBC will issue a comment later this evening.

Earlier this week, the Metropolitan Police said that two men, aged 64 and 74, were arrested in south London and taken into police custody as part of Operation Yewtree.

The operation was launched after allegations against the late BBC DJ Jimmy Savile emerged.

Yewtree has three strands: allegations involving Savile, allegations involving Savile and others, and allegations involving others.

The two men arrested on Tuesday were the 15th and 16th people to be arrested as part of the operation, and fell under the strand termed ‘others’.
