PICS: Queues as people line up to cast their votes in US election

Some voters complained of queues and delays after polls opened at 6AM, while others expressed relief at being able to vote in storm-ravaged areas.

PEOPLE HAVE STARTED casting their votes in the 2012 US Presidential elections, after polls began opening around the country.

In Virginia, polls opened at 6am, with the Times-Dispatch reporting that people had complained about long lines at two of the Richmond precincts.

Some voters complained about problems checking in voters, while others said lines were at a standstill. Voting concludes at 7pm.

In New Jersey, meanwhile, one polling station opened 40 minutes late, the International News reports. There are a number of makeshift polling stations set up in New Jersey after it was badly struck by Superstorm Sandy last week.

Voter turnout was heavy in several of the storm-ravaged Jersey Shore towns, with many voters expressing relief at being able to vote at all, said AP.
